One forgotten bag on the way out the door for a fishing trip turned into the conversation Tommy had been avoiding for weeks, and by the end of it, new screen time rules were on the table. This week Tommy and Tim dig into why that dopamine hit from scrolling hooks kids and adults exactly the same way, and why fighting it feels so much harder than it should.
They also get into what it actually means to sacrifice as a parent, the kind that doesn't get talked about enough, why the small wins matter a lot more than people give them credit for, and how a genuinely rough week still somehow ended with one of the best weekends either of them has had all summer. Loud, honest, a little unhinged in places, same as always.
This show was never about the numbers, it's about knowing you're not alone.

[00:00:00] It's hard for us, never mind like a kid, like he's 12 years old. It's very easy to fall down a rabbit hole of the scrolling. You can burn hours of your day. And you don't even know how, like you don't realize it until lift your head up. It's too late. And it's like, oh shit, it's been two hours. And it's designed to do that and so that's hard to fight against because it's addictive, it's totally addictive. It's that whole like dopamine hit that you get every time you fucking scroll.
[00:00:29] Or you see something new or funny. You get this tiny little hit of reward and it's like, that's hard to fight. That's chemical man, like that's hard to fight. Yeah.
[00:01:09] Three hours of sleep. Oh God, three? Yeah, I was up at 3. 34. Like can you stay that? No, like we went to bed at like midnight or 1230 and just couldn't fall asleep. After the amount of drinks I had. That's probably why. I should have been, yeah, I should have been sleep at 11 but. Oh. Welcome back everybody. Yeah, you had a good weekend. Yeah, I had a great weekend. Yeah. That's nice.
[00:01:38] Yeah, it was fishing weekend. I mean the weather was shit. Did you catch anything? Nope. Nothing? Nothing. Not a single? No, we had tons of nibbles. My fucking fish finder was marking everything. We're like two idiots, me and my son just like jigging and jigging and jigging and nothing. Nothing, yeah. So. Whoa. Yeah, so fantastic. Whoa. That's tough. Yeah, so here we are. It was still a nice great weekend away from reality.
[00:02:08] Yeah, that's good. Yeah. So. I believe that. Recording this episode a little bit earlier because you're leaving. Yeah. Yeah. And you won't be here for the recording day and this episode will come out after my birthday, so. Yeah, I'm leaving next. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, next Saturday and then you're gone for like a week and a bit. Like a week, yeah. A week, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I guess so, yeah, a week. Mm-hmm. So that'll be fun. Yeah, it'll be good. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:02:38] A little bit of work, a little bit of fun. Yeah. A little bit of pleasure, mostly work. Yeah. Can we talk about where you're going? I'm going to Texas. Nice. Yeah. Oh. Food. I love Texas. Drinks. Yep. People, right? Yeah, all of it. Yeah. Texas is awesome. Football, I hear. Yep. That'll be nice. So I'm flying into, I'm going to Houston, basically just for a day. Okay.
[00:03:03] And then San Antonio for two, three days and then I don't know where yet. Yeah. Somewhere else. Yeah. Nice. Yeah. That's awesome. Yeah, it'll be good. I'm looking forward to it. I like Texas. It's fun. I'm looking- It's hot as fucking shit there right now though, which sucks. I shouldn't say I'm looking forward to you going and having- Yeah. Yeah. I'm not going. Why? Are you coming? Did you book a flight? No. No, but I'm looking forward to you actually like, you know, having- Obviously you're going there for work, but you're going to have some-
[00:03:33] Yeah. Some you time too. Yeah, it'll be good. Yeah. That's awesome. Cool. Let's check in and- Sure. I'm like a two. Or still. Yeah. Have you tried to do anything for yourself? Nope. Nope. Nope. Just surviving. Yep. Yep. Same. So no change from last episode, really?
[00:04:02] It would be the same. Okay. Yeah. It's fine. It is- Well, I don't know. No, yeah. No, and that's just- Maybe it'll change yet. I don't know, but not this week. No, and like, because you are not like me where things affect your mood rapidly, right? Like it takes- Yeah, you move up and down that scale much more frequently than I do. I find you crash harder, and it's-
[00:04:29] Sorry, crash easier, and it's harder for you to build that up a little bit. Because I noticed that even in the past, like, you would be getting better, better, and then boom, back down lower. And then getting better, getting better over not just one or two episodes, but maybe four or five. Yeah. I could see that. And so yeah, like, so, because we recorded- I was just gonna wait, yeah, okay. Uh- Sorry.
[00:04:56] Because we recording a little bit earlier now, so yeah, like there hasn't been much, much of a change for you. No, and- It was just a busy week, and then- Yeah. Now we're here, so. Is work a little bit better? Because I know that was a little bit crazy there. Yeah, like- Are things settling down a little bit? Uh, I don't know if they're settling down, but they're like, they are getting a bit better. Okay. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's important too, because- It's tricky.
[00:05:26] It's like the level of intensity and the busyness is still the same, but the emergencies don't feel as big. Okay. Does that make sense? So like, basically you guys kind of figured out how to deal with those emergencies. Yeah, some of the big shit we were fighting with, like we have either figured out or it's on a better path. Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's a plan for it. That helps. Yeah, for sure. No, that's good. Yeah. So that's something. Yeah, absolutely.
[00:05:56] I'm good. You? Um, I wanna say I'm about a six. Okay. Um, struggling with like, not only organizing my thoughts, but like getting certain shit done. Um, trying to figure out my proper, I guess, uh, how to deal with my work orders.
[00:06:26] Okay. You know? Yeah. I have projects on the go and, and I started noticing a little bit on like, like, oh shit, I forgot to do this. And then fuck, I forgot that as well. And then I'm scrambling, you know? So I need to like, I'm trying to, I tried to figure out like last, like a couple of days before the weekend, I tried to figure out like, okay, my, I might actually have to print out actual work order. Like, Hey, I need to do this. Mm-hmm . And then in order to, for me to get that done, I need these, this, this, this, this, this,
[00:06:55] and maybe just manually like checking it off or like, or I. Just getting better organized. And I downloaded that to do is too. And like, oh, it's great. But then I haven't looked at it for like two days. Well, that, yeah. And so like then. It only works if you look at it. Exactly. So. And then that only works if you do it. Yeah, exactly. So like, I'm just trying to figure out like what's gonna work. So I stay on top of like what needs to be done today. And then also look at like, oh, what's gonna happen? What's, what's, what's going on tomorrow? You know? And then. Yeah.
[00:07:24] So I can plan things out. So like before you showed up today, like me and Adrian had like maybe 15 minutes or so just were sitting. And so we just looked at our schedule for the week, like home schedule. Right. I'm like, maybe I just need to do that. Like on a Sunday, like, okay, like, what is it that I need to get done this week? Yeah. When am I going to do it and actually put it in that like, Hey, this is on Monday. This is on Tuesday. This is on Wednesday.
[00:07:53] And just try to figure out. So I'm going to have a busy week cause I have a lot of deadlines to do, but I like that. Like it's, it's, it's, I'm like, I'm excited about that. So that's good. But it's just like, it was a lot of like, and the fact that I left for the weekend, you spent the weekend getting shit face. Yeah. And like, so it was great, but that's a big setback for it. It's a big setback. Right. So like, uh, which is okay. But then I know like tonight, um, I'm going to do some work and then tomorrow, luckily
[00:08:23] like chatted with Adriana and like, okay, tomorrow I don't have much going on. So as in like with the family, there's no like take one or now ping pong. Right. Yeah. So, uh, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday evenings are a little bit busier, but that's okay because I can take him to take one. Do I got two hours? I'll just sit in the car, lock in and do it. Right. You're pretty good at that. Yeah. So I'm looking forward to that. Um, and then, you know, like out of the two hours I'll take 20 minutes and then just go
[00:08:52] watch Jacob for a bit. Right. And yeah. So it'll be nice, nice mental break too, for me to take a little break from the, the, the screen, go in, watch him a little bit, go back, finish, continue. So, so I'm looking forward to like this week that it's busy, but like, okay, let's see how can I manage. Trying it out. Yeah. Yeah. So, so I'm, I'm, I'm looking forward to like tomorrow morning I'm getting up early and you know, getting the kids ready cause Adrian and I is actually doing some, some work stuff in the morning.
[00:09:21] And, uh, so I'm like, yep, no, um, I wanted to do that. I get up with the kids, make breakfast, you know, just kind of send them off to school and then dive right in. So yeah. Good. But yeah, it's just, yeah. A six. Yeah. So. Great weekend though. I had a fantastic time and it was nice cause I, I chatted a little work too. My buddy is kind of starting his own thing and he's looking for some advice. He's getting advice from me and I'm like, I'm only telling you, I'm only telling you what
[00:09:50] I've learned so far. Like I don't have much, but like he's basically right now where I was four years ago. Yeah. Okay. And I was just starting out, like not knowing like how this thing works. Yeah. He's even crazier cause he, he doesn't have a full time job. He just like doing it on his own. Yeah. So he's diving into it faster without like having that basic thing that I've figured, tried to figure out over. Well, it took you years to make that shift. Yeah. So he's just like doing it and he's like, Oh, I need an accountant just to explain what
[00:10:19] can I do? What I can't do, blah, blah, blah. But he's just doing the work, which is good. So. Yeah. That's good. Um, yeah. So it was just excited for him too, as well. Shout out to Mark. He's a fucking gem. I'm going to meet that guy someday. Oh man. He's like the best. Like honestly. I thought I was the best. Down to earth. No, I'm not the best. You're horrible. I know. It's even funny that I would say that. I know. No, he's down to earth guy. He was willing to help out people, you know, every, anytime I feel so bad that like, you
[00:10:48] know, with the boat, I had issues with like, he's just there. He just seems like, Oh, he's just a kind, helpful. Oh, he is. And he's good shit. Like he can have good conversations and yeah, we actually talked about how, how we met and, uh, we actually met at like a social, but it was just like, Hey, this is Mark. This is Tommy. That's about it. Right. And then me and my buddy, Trevor, who was here on Friday, um, we, uh, his son Griff and
[00:11:17] Jacob are a few months apart. So when they were like, I want to say three or four years old little shits, you know, we went camping to Otter Falls and he, uh, like he took the boys for boat rides on his jet boat and his neighbors, uh, took the kids for a ride. But Mark's like, yeah, I remember you, we ran out of beer. So you and Trevor took his boat, went to Pinawa bought a case of bush beer. And then you came back because he had a bigger boat. We couldn't get to the dock.
[00:11:45] So you just jumped into water and you're carrying the bush beer. You're swimming while carrying the bush beer. I'm like, that's right. I totally forgot about that. That would be you. You would do that. Yeah. So that was kind of my introduction to the group of people there at Otter Falls. And now they welcome me with, uh, welcome me and Jacob with, uh, with open arms. And you know, one of the guys, the guy that used to organize the fishing derby for 30 years, um, he was, he was just there on Friday too.
[00:12:15] Cause we call it the vortex. You hang out at the vortex cause you get sucked in and you never leave. Yeah. And, um, so he came by and he's like, Oh yeah, I hear that Jacob, uh, wants to do some water skiing and stuff. I'm like, yeah, yeah. He's like, do you have stuff? I'm like, we have some old skis that are like, like the training skis, but we don't actually have. He's like, all right, I'll bring you some skis tomorrow. I don't use them. So he gave Jacob like brand new, like, they look brand new skis, man. Oh wow. Yeah. And I'm like, what do you want for it? He's like, nothing. Just use, if he's going to use it, great.
[00:12:44] I'm like, Oh, so I got it. I'm going to buy him a nice bottle of whiskey or something. Well, yeah, that's the nice thing to do. Yeah. I'm so bad at water sports. Oh, I tried water skiing once. My legs went apart. I'm like, never again. I like, I was a decent skateboarder. Okay. I was a decent snowboarder. I was better at skateboarding and snowboarding, but like, I could do both of those things. But fucking water sports, just forget it. Like a fucking nightmare.
[00:13:14] I like to be on the tube and just putter out. Yeah. No, that's, I can do that. Like I won't fuck that up, but man, I just like wakeboard. I just can't do it. And to me also, that does not look fun. I would really love it if I could do it, get up, but I, oh, it's fucking, it kills me. Yeah. It fucking kills. I stopped trying now. Yeah. Cause it's too frustrating. Well, you got fatter, so. Yeah.
[00:13:42] But not that much rope snap. Oh, okay. That's a sign. We're like, all right. This is when you quit, right? Yeah. That's why I don't try. Like I said, I tried once. My legs went apart and I'm like, no, that's it. This is workout. Like this is just not fun. Fair enough. Fair enough. Anyways. Um, yeah. So, uh, I, I, we already talked about this, so I'm going to explain our, our, our
[00:14:11] listeners that my son, he's a fantastic little creature. He's, he's just such a fucking amazing little dude, but man, can he be stupid? Mm. Like, and yeah, you, you said it right. He's you. I'm like, yeah, yeah. Yeah. He's totally me and I'm trying him to not be me. He's, I'm trying him to be a lot better.
[00:14:37] And, uh, so, you know, it's 100% our fault. How old for the, for the listeners? How old is he? So he's 12. Okay. And so that's important. It is. Yeah. Very, yeah. Very important. And, uh, so he's turning into this little young man and hormones are obviously kicking in and he's got his buddies that are also like super high energy and, you know, they just, they love having fun.
[00:15:06] And they're, they say, say the stupidest thing, funniest things. We still do. We do it on this fucking show. Yeah, exactly. So he's turning, yeah, he's turning into a little dude. Yeah. Like he's not just a little boy anymore. Yeah. And he loves hanging out with adults, like with me and my friends and you, like, he just loves being around adults. Like this weekend, he was, he was just chilling there. Like he's got to like, well, what did you do? I was like, well, just chilling upstairs. And like dad was getting drunk with his buddies downstairs.
[00:15:33] You know, there's like a little ledge and like, but I'm like, you know, he loves, he loves just being part of the guys. Yeah, he does. And so, but anyways, but it lately it's, it's this, so this is our fault where we let the screens kind of just go and obviously they, they abuse it. It's not on purpose or not. Like, it's just like, if we don't stay on top of like, Hey, get off your screen and do something different.
[00:16:03] All of that shit is designed to do that. Yeah. So it's easy. It's easy. Right? Yeah. It's easy to just like, Oh, I'm going to watch this now. So he's been forgetting. I tell him three things and he'll do one. And then he's like, Oh, I'm done. Uh, no, you forgot two more things. Oh yeah. Sorry. Sorry. And it's the last two weeks has been just like, Oh, sorry. Oh, sorry. And then we don't correct it correctly. Yeah. And then we just give him shit. Then he's pissed off.
[00:16:31] And so it's been, it's been really hard. Yeah. Like on him and on us too, because we were, we get pissed off, but then we understand that we, we don't want to, you know, make you feel like shit. All that sucks. And it doesn't go anywhere. It doesn't feel good for anybody. No. Yeah. And so Friday, like we're going out fishing and I asked him to bring in the, the, the bags and the coolers and everything while he forgot my bags with clothes, with our toothbrushes with, you know, like his puffer and like shit that we need, like a rain gear.
[00:17:00] Cause it was raining this weekend. So like, I'm like, we need that. So we were like 20 minutes, 20 minutes out. So I had to drive back through traffic, get the bag. And I just had a conversation. You must've been very pleased. Oh, it was. Yeah. I was just like, that was kind of like the final nail in the coffin. I was just like, all right, dude, like we need to like, like this, this cannot, this is a work. This cannot go on. So after about a 20 minute chat, we've come to a conclusion.
[00:17:27] Cause I asked him like, what do you think the punishment should be? Like, I don't want to punish you, but like, we need a plan. We need some type of a program or anything that's, that's gonna maybe stop this behavior and, and turn, let's turn it into something positive, something good. You know, like how can we make this work that you don't forget things? You're not like, Ooh, okay. I just got to do this quick so I can go back to my screen. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:17:54] And, uh, so we, we've come to a, we've come to a conclusion that we're going to limit his screen time on the cell phone, but that's including his switch or his VR or screen TV. Anything that is useless. Yeah. So I told him because he drums, if you want to watch drumming videos, you want to watch, learn a song or keep listening to it, you know, but you want to watch it on YouTube,
[00:18:23] watch all you want. Yep. If you want to learn a new skill or something, or you want to watch a documentary about anything and you're learning, I'm okay with that. We can't now just switch everything to different, but like, I'll let, I'll let that slide. But like games, stupid shit, YouTube, TikToks, whatever's reels. No, like one hour, you get one hour a day. Yeah.
[00:18:49] Whether you do it in the morning, if you have time, half an hour and then half an hour later, that's fine. What are the kids called? It's slop? Is it slop? Sure. Oh my God. Yeah. There's another fucking full language that they developed. I think slop is the word. I was like, guys, speak English. Like, no, no, no, you can't talk this brain rot stuff to me. Yeah, we can have another 20 episodes about just the stupid shit that they've come up with. We had ours too. Did we? Yeah. I don't think so.
[00:19:18] I didn't. I don't remember. I don't know. I'm just, I'm assuming we did. Ooh, that's rad, man. Yeah. Yeah, I guess so. Like we had stuff. Yeah. I don't know. But yeah, it just doesn't make sense. But I guess it makes sense in their brains. Yeah. So it's going to be an interesting two, three weeks. Yeah. So you're trying something, you set some new boundaries. Yeah. I guess. Yeah. Boundaries is a good term. And just let's see where this goes.
[00:19:48] Now that means I also have to be a little more involved in his life and help him manage it until it becomes a little more natural, I guess, for him. Yeah. So that's going to be interesting. But yeah, we'll see. It's tough, man. Like all, all that screen shit just like, and it's hard for us. Like, I don't know about you, but like I struggle with it sometimes. Oh yeah.
[00:20:18] Like it's, it's hard for us. Nevermind like a kid, like he's 12 years old. Yeah. Like it's very easy to fall down a rabbit hole. Man. Of the scrolling, right? You can burn hours of your day. And you don't even know how, like you don't realize it until you lift your head up. It's too late. Yeah. And it's like, Oh shit. Yeah. It's been two hours. Yeah. I know. And, uh, you know, it's designed to do that. And so that's hard to fight against because it, it's addictive.
[00:20:47] It's totally addictive. Yeah. It's that whole like dopamine hit that you get every time you fucking scroll. Like, or you see something new or funny. You get this tiny little hit of reward and it's like, that's hard to fight. That's chemical man. Like that's hard to fight. Yeah. Yeah. And it's crazy that like, I mean, also some of that shit is really funny. Like, Oh, it's super funny. What if the next video is funnier than the one I just watched? Like, yeah, that's like, or I want more of this. Yeah. Like that's what it is. I want more. Yeah.
[00:21:17] It's a drug. Oh, it absolutely. It's a legal drug. It absolutely is. Yeah. There's no question. One of the most addictive. Yeah. It doesn't necessarily ruin your life and your family's life. No. But it does do some damage to your life and to your like. Now do you, do you view like, like you said all screens, but like if he's playing games or communicating with friends like that to me was, is different than just scrolling through shit.
[00:21:47] It is for sure. Or like watching someone comment on someone playing like that shit is ridiculous. I don't understand why. That's insane. But adults do it too. Well, it's so it's stupid. That's so stupid. But like you're watching somebody else playing a video game and then they're talking about it. So like, how about play your own goddamn video game? Yeah. Yeah. Try to beat that level. Don't watch somebody else beat the level. In my mind, like that, I would view that differently.
[00:22:14] Like if you're playing a game or you're like, like my daughter's an only child. Yep. And so like a lot of her social interactions when she's just home for the evening is like with us or with her friends online, online. Yeah. And like that dramatically improves her quality of life because she can do that. Yeah. So I, it can, it can be bad. Don't kid yourself.
[00:22:42] Like I understand what you're, what you're saying and what you're doing, but like, I'm just trying to give the opposing opinion or the additional opinion is just like, yes, it can be bad. It can be poisonous. It can be all those things. It can also be really good. Yeah. Uh, so the thing is that he and his friends, they have ways to communicate. Mm hmm. So he has some friends online that are not from here.
[00:23:12] Yeah. Okay. 40 year old man and shit like that. Probably. Yeah. Nice. Yeah. Good stuff. And that's the thing. So I don't care about that. Like he doesn't actually play the video games with his friends. Uh, there are his friends. Oh, okay. He plays with maybe he might play like a couple of the games here and there, you know? Yeah. But I kind of let him decide this. So I was like, Hey, he agreed to the terms.
[00:23:40] And again, like we will, it's not, I'm not saying that this is how it's going to be. You're going to try it. We got to try it. Yeah. We can't try it for a week. We got to give it like a good two, three weeks, you know, and see how it is. And maybe he'll, he'll say, well, you know, like Liam and Hunter are playing the game, but I used up my one hour and I, you know, that's when I can either say, well, okay, well, I understand that you're missing your friends. So go ahead and join them. Yeah. Or I understand you're missing your friends.
[00:24:10] You should have talked to your friends earlier to see if they're going to play tonight. And instead of watching stupid YouTube videos, you could have saved up your hour for that. Yeah. You know? So. Correct. You're right. We'll see how that happens. So I don't know what's going to be, how it's going to be and how it's going to look. But yeah, that's, that's a valid point because yeah, I, I, I, I've done that where I played online games and never met the people, but we've developed a relationship and you, we have that.
[00:24:36] So like, um, yeah, maybe, um, maybe it's going to change, but yeah, I'm just, well, you just gotta, you gotta start something. Well, what you essentially what you're saying is whatever you were doing isn't working or wasn't working. No, no. So yeah. We have to try something else. That's right. Yeah. It doesn't mean that's it. It just means we've got to try something else. Yeah. And it'll be, and it might, it might involve into something like, well, while the weather
[00:25:02] is still good and we don't have minus 40 and snow, you know, okay, uh, let's go shoot some hoops for 15 minutes or go for a walk. Like we can just do the loop or go to the park a little bit, you know, like, um, go for a bike ride or, you know what? Go take your bike, go knock on your buddy's friend. Like I used to do when I was a kid. Right. See if they're home. Yeah. You know? Oh, they're not home. Nobody does that anymore. Just a couple. Well, and they do like, it's nice. They do.
[00:25:30] Uh, him and his couple of buddies do. Yeah. Uh, yeah. Just like, uh, one, one of the guys just shows up and just kind of walks in like, Hey, is Jacob Brown? Yeah. Like we were watching Ted Lasso cause that's our family show. And, um, and so we literally just about to start watching the show and then somebody rings the doorbell. We opened the door and he just like walks right in. You know? He's like, Hey Jacob. He's like, Jacob's like, Hey.
[00:25:59] Like he was like, Oh shit. We didn't start watching the show yet. And then look, you want to hang out? And then they just like, what do you guys want to do? I don't know. Yeah. You know? And so like, I love that, but it was nice. But he was also like, there was, this was still like just the last second last day of the holidays or something. And so they could have stayed up later and cause it was during the week, but we were like, well, we were just about to watch the show. And so we're like, Jacob, do you want to go? Or do you want to watch the show?
[00:26:27] He's like, I think I'm just going to chill and watch the show. So like, but yeah, you let him decide. But I loved that. I loved it that it was just like, yeah, he just bustles. Hey man, you want to hang out? Like, love it. I love that too. That's how we used to do. Like we would go out, like I would go knock on my buddy's house and then, Oh yeah. Like you're home. Okay, let's go. We meet at the, we had this bench that we used to occupy and then everybody around it. And then the next thing you know, like, Oh, there's a couple of people out.
[00:26:53] And like, that's the beauty of living in like a small town with apartments where like, you know, you have eight stories and like three or four, uh, like entrances and each entrance has like three apartments on each store. So like, you know, they look, Oh yeah, somebody's out already. Let's go. I'm going to go. Yeah. Right. So it's, it's different a little bit, but well, and that's changed from our generation to theirs. That's changed so much. Oh, absolutely. Yeah. Like dramatically.
[00:27:22] Like I remember when I kid, like I think I was, I got a computer. I played video games, but everything was offline. And I want to say, I think I might've been like maybe 14 or 15 where we had a LAN, like a local area network. Oh yeah. You said fucking LAN parties. Yeah. So we had like, there was four different guys.
[00:27:48] We just like, we literally, dad had to drill a hole through cement wall, land a cable outside and we were just connected through a local area network. Yeah. And we played unreal tournament, the four of us, you know, and it was awesome. And like, we had like headsets and everything. We could actually chat. Like that was so cool. That was my first online gaming experience. LAN parties were pretty fun. They were awesome. You go to your buddy's house with a computer, with your PC, like the whole fucking thing. Yeah.
[00:28:19] But we just, we just ran cables. Yeah. Cause we were all in the same apartment. I guess it's comp like, like, so there's like the apartments, they have each, like they have like separate entrances. So like if you get, there's four entrances. If you go to the first one, you can't get to the second, third and fourth. You can only go into that and then you go up and down and you have three apartments on each level. Oh, okay. Yeah. And then the next set is separate. It's not like a long hallway, right? Gotcha.
[00:28:47] And so like we were all in the one section, so it was easy to run the, yeah. Yeah. The three of us, three of us, it was second floor, fourth floor, seven floor and seven floor. So it was awesome. Like it was great. Yeah. That's pretty fun. Like fantastic times, man. And, and yeah, I just, but that, you know, yeah, we, we just went out most of the time. It was just like, let's go out. Who's out? Well, our parents used to just like, tell us to go out. Like, leave. Yeah. Go, go outside.
[00:29:17] Probably wanted to have sex or something. No, I'm, I think it was all basically based on sex, but like. For sure. It was just like, get out of that, go outside. Yeah. All right. Yeah. No. And, and so that's the nice thing. Like Jacob and his crew, like they go play, they play football in the, in the park. They play soccer in the park. Um, then they, you know, they end up going to one house, one, one guy's house. Then the next one, they move around. Yeah. When we had the pool, they were here sometimes.
[00:29:46] And like three hours later, they're back, you know, I loved it. It's awesome. That was great. Like he had a busy, busy August. Good. So, but he also gets exhausted. Like, like he's got, he's an extrovert, but he needs his recovery time. Yeah. For sure. Which I think. I think everybody does. Everybody does. Yeah. So we could tell the days when he was like, exhausted. Just over it. Yeah. It's just like, all right. I just need a day to chill.
[00:30:13] And then, but that's when he was all day on screens, which is also not a, the best recovery time. Yeah. Of course. But yeah. So, so that's the thing. Like, I'm just going to try, man. Like, see how we can. Well, all you can do is try something different. Yeah, exactly. And see how it goes. For him, for you, for Adriana. Like, all you can do is try something. Yeah. Yeah. It's good. So we'll see. Let's take a quick break. Sure.
[00:30:41] This episode is brought to you by OK John Metal Detectors, a proud sponsor of the Quiet Riot Show and celebrating 50 years in business. We had to today, I know. But like, I think Sundays are going to be our recording days, like, keep it afternoon-ish or so. Yeah, I mean, uh. Maybe mornings if there's a race.
[00:31:35] We might watch the race tonight. Maybe. Yeah. We'll see. So, I'm definitely going to watch it tonight. I know, I want to watch it. I just don't know if I want to stay here and watch it or go home. Yeah. Well, last weekend was fun. Yes. We watched it here. I know. Yeah. It's always fun. Just the next day. What it's going to cost me. Yeah. Both financially and in time. Because then I'm going to have to Uber home, then I got to get my car tomorrow. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's, yeah, it's.
[00:32:06] Or you can just Uber back and you can work from here tomorrow if you want. I guess I could do that. We do have to meet in the morning. We do have to meet. Well, at some point tomorrow, but. We're solving problems, everybody. Look at this. Every day. What I'm hearing is it'd be stupid if I didn't stay here to watch the race. Exactly. I mean, you could also just crash here and then we can start working right away in the morning. Oh, man. You didn't bring your laptop, did you? Yeah, of course I did. Oh, perfect. Yeah, done. I always bring it. Yeah, problem solved. See? That's how we do it.
[00:32:36] Shit. Very nice. I got. Wow, fuck. Season four is a real winner. Season three? Four. Three. What do you mean, season four? Just, so yeah, like we just kind of chatted and so school started. Kids are back at their fucking activities and everything. So I think that's, that's going to play a big role for Jacob too.
[00:33:03] And, um, with this whole thing, but man, like what you told me right now outside, like it's seriously scared the shit out of me. Right? It's terrifying. Volleyball. I think, I think the volleyball people just hate kids. No, they hate families. Yeah. They don't hate kids. Well, yeah. They hate parents. Just cause like, like there's a tournament right away coming up and like. Well, what was I telling you this week? Like she started school Thursday, like four days ago. Yeah.
[00:33:34] And she had volleyball the Wednesday before that and Thursday. And then this, this fucking, the first fucking week she has Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Yeah. Like, I mean, I, I don't know. I get it, I guess, but like that's excessive, isn't it? But I mean, well, and that's just one sport, which is crazy because like Jacob has Taekwondo Thursday, Tuesday, Thursday for Saturday.
[00:34:02] Then he has drumming on Tuesday after Taekwondo, ping pong on Wednesday. And, and also he's got tryouts for volleyball, for school volleyball, Wednesday afternoon. Is that too much? Like, when is it too much? I think when the kid's exhausted, I think that's when it's too much. When the, when you, when you, when the kid just like, oh, I don't want to go, you know, like all, all the time. Yeah. Then I think that's, that's, that's, that's where I would be like. They'll tell you.
[00:34:29] Cause at the end of the day, screw what, how you feel or I feel about it. Yeah. No, that doesn't matter. Yeah. You're a parent. Like, if you didn't want your kid to go, then don't sign your kid up, which is also a shitty move. Yeah. Right. So, um, I obviously want my kids to be involved in everything that they are interested in. And I'm going to sacrifice every single minute of my time if I have to. That's a great way to put that though. Right. Cause that's what it is. Yeah. It's a sacrifice. It is.
[00:34:59] It's, it's, it's my sacrifice. My parents sacrificed things for, so I can do. Yep. Mine too. You know, for sure. And that's, that is, that is the parent's legacy or parents. I don't know. Like. It's just part of being a parent. Yeah, it is. Yeah. And that, like, you know, we talk, we always talk about purpose, having the purpose when you're, when you become a parent, you find your true purpose. You want that, you want to make sure that that kid's life is as great as it can be. Yeah. Right.
[00:35:29] And so, yeah, like, yeah, if I have to sit in the car or go there with, you know, obviously sit there for two hours watching him stretching. Yeah. Like, that's fucking boring. I don't care about that. Yeah. Like, go do your thing. Yeah. I'll work. But then when they're doing like some of the, the drills or whatever they're called. Sure. Like, I don't go to, I don't go to practices. Yeah. Like. But I go to tournaments. Yeah. Yeah. Like. Like when they have tournaments and games. Yeah.
[00:35:56] Cause that's where you can get actually involved and cheer and yeah. Like that's, that's the whole thing. And like, and when your kid does good, you know, that's a huge reward. When your kid doesn't good, like the, the team or whatever, they don't achieve the, that milestone they wanted to do. Well, that's when you're there to pick them up, you know? Yeah. And teach them like, Hey, that happens. You can't always win. Sometimes you fall and then, you know, you just get up and you've got to, if you want to do better, you got to practice.
[00:36:25] Work harder and fucking try to win next time. And so that's why I was kind of like with Jacob, the drumming thing is like, he loves going to the drum lessons and he loves his teacher, but he doesn't really want to practice. So we, we talked about that, right? Yeah. I got to get a little creative with him. Yeah. You and I talked about that a bit. Yeah. How can I, okay. I got to pick up my guitar and just pick an easy song and just like, okay, let's do it. Let's have fun. Let's jam out. I feel like that's, he'd have fun with that. I think so. Yeah.
[00:36:53] So, so yeah, we'll, I think these next three weeks will be interesting and for me too. Yeah. Cause why not add something new to my life? Right. Oh God. Yeah. But you know what? I, a coworker of mine reached out to me, my old coworker. You don't have coworkers anymore. That's right. He reached out to me last week and it's just like, Hey, how are things? You know, blah, blah, blah. And I'm like, yeah, it's good. It's been great. Like, I love it.
[00:37:21] Like it's, it's nice to have my own schedule. I, I, I get to pick my schedule, how I want to do it. And, um, you know, so far, like I, I, I haven't looked back. Hmm. Good. I just haven't looked back. Like, cause like every time I'm thinking of, well, yeah, you're going to the cabin for the weekend, you're boating at your buddies. Yeah. No shit. You haven't looked back.
[00:37:47] Honestly, it's just, it's like, it's what I said is like, then like, while my family was home, I hated working at home. But the nice part about it was that I woke up early. I worked for like an hour, maybe to two hours. Then they came downstairs now. Okay. I'm just going to sit down and have a coffee with my wife. And it was really nice. Cause we sat for about half an hour, chatted, had a coffee. And then, okay, I got to get back to fucking work. Now they didn't give a shit.
[00:38:15] Cause they would ask me like, Hey, what do you think about this? Uh, I don't care. I'm working. Yeah. But you know, that's another, that's another episode. But no, it was just like, it's just nice to be able to do that. And, and, uh, and really, really celebrate, uh, these little wins that like, yeah, I, sometimes I work till 11 or midnight because I chose to not do something during the day or in the
[00:38:45] afternoon or in the morning. Yeah. It's a trade off. But now I just got to catch up because you know what? I was doing something with my kid or with my wife and, uh, my wife, my wife and my brother took my brother to a walk for a walk. I'm not okay. You know, that's not good. Oh, so good. Um, did you watch Borat this weekend? No, I didn't. I thought about it. I almost put it on actually, to be honest. Yeah. He texted me.
[00:39:13] I think I'm going to watch Borat. Yeah. I didn't end up watching it, but. Well, I'm pretty disappointed. Well, um, you weren't there. Why would I? But, uh, yeah. So, um, this is it for September's episodes. Hopefully in October we'll have some updates for you, everybody, uh, about local meetup in for Movember. Movember is coming up. So we've got to get ready for that shit. Yeah. Yeah. I know you have a homework to do tomorrow.
[00:39:41] You can reschedule, but, uh, I got my jobs. I know how to do them, but well, you just keep rescheduling shit. I didn't do it. It wasn't on me. Sure. What? Yeah, I don't know. I'm just kidding. Fuck you. I'm just bugging you. You fucking do it then. No, no. You volunteered. Well then shut up. You volunteered. Well, either shut the fuck up or you do it. Those are your options. All right. Okay. All right.
[00:40:09] Well, apparently I'm shutting the fuck up. So anyways, follow us on social media. It's quite a riot show. Uh, if you guys, if you're listening to this and you want to see our beautiful faces go on YouTube, but yeah, there's, um, not much to see here. No, no. No, but, uh, I don't even want to be here. You got some mugs. If you guys want to buy some mugs. No, I do want to be here. I don't want to see it. I know that you, you don't even listen to it. So that's fine. Why would I? I'm doing it. I don't know the point of listening to it. I have to edit it and I keep listening to it. Yeah.
[00:40:40] But then I, sometimes I get a really good chuckles cause I'm like, Oh, we actually didn't talk about it. We didn't say that. And then I got to cut it out. Yeah. Yeah. You save it though. Don't you? I do. I have the original footage of everything. Oh man. Um, I'd be worried if you didn't say as much shit as I do. Actually before, yeah, before we, and why don't we just say one highlight of your summer? Of my summer?
[00:41:08] What was, what was, cause because we were off for the summer break and one good positive thing or that you enjoyed or you laughed or like, what was the one thing that you would mention that doesn't involve your family? We know you're going to make me dig deep on this one cause I didn't have any fucking fun this summer. We know. No, no you did. I think you did. But we know you love your family, but like just outside of that, what was one funny or great thing about this summer? Um.
[00:41:36] Learned about yourself or did or something happened to someone? Honestly, like, uh, I think we, I don't know when we talked about it or if we did, but the, our weekend at the cabin was easily the highlight of my summer. Okay. Nice. Easily. Like by a mile. That was awesome. I haven't laughed that much that hard in a year. Yeah. Yeah. That's good. That was my easily my highlight. That's awesome. Yeah. I'm glad.
[00:42:05] Despite the fact that you were there, I still had that much fun. I tried to ruin your weekend, but it just couldn't even, it was so good. No, I couldn't ruin it. I couldn't. I tried walking around naked the whole time. I was just like, no, I'm just kidding. Um, my highlight was when we Googled your name. Oh, sorry. Chad GPT your name. That was, I fuck, I never laughed so hard. That was really funny. That was hilarious. That was, man, that was funny. I forgot.
[00:42:35] Fucking internet, man. You can't run away from that shit. You can't get away from shit. Nope. Nope. You can't. Like, forget it. So if you wondering, no, no, it was, it was, it was a hilarious moment. Cause we just, there's multiple people sitting around the table. We just did it and like, your party was really good too. Yeah. That was good. That was really fun. It's fun. I had a good time there. Yeah. It was actually, it turned out really good. Yeah.
[00:42:59] Like, uh, all afternoon, uh, we start, I started to crack my first beer at noon and I think we will shut her down around what? Two, three, two or three. Yeah. Yeah. That's a good shift. Yeah. I'm looking forward to hot tub season. Yeah. It's coming up soon. So, uh, all right guys, uh, tune in, tune in, check it out, rate, whatever, or don't whatever comment, leave us a voicemail.
